osmanthus fragrans and wells can be found along guijing street. can you guess how it got its name? guijing street runs east to gongqing road, north to liuting street, and west to changchun road. according to the local documentary yinxian annals, the street, formerly known as big alley, was located at the southwest side of moon lake. actually, its name originates from the streetside osmanthus well.

the neighboring houses mostly belonged to the lu family; some of them were sold to the families of quan and xu later. celebrities such as lu maolong, xu shidong and quan zuwang of the ming and qing dynasties were born here.

guijing street was perceived as a place with rich scholarliness. now the street dwells in the heart of ningbo, surrounded by many historic buildings. among them, there is a mostly intact building, yanyu lou—personal library of xu shidong (1814-1873). at its front stands the statue of famous writer quan zuwang (1705-1755). quan was born here and talented in writing, enjoying high repute in chinese historiography. here you can find former residence of xu shidong, qin's house and many other buildings constructed in the ming and qing dynasties. they are currently under restoration. the hope is that we will see them again soon. its landscape of old streets with high walls and back alleys will make you overwhelmed during strolls.
