ningbo fun facts 101·legendary streets episode 10 guangren street -和记娱乐平台在线
among all the ancient streets in ningbo, “guangren street” is not a household name. the street derives its name from the memorial archway guangren fang. during the early southern song dynasty (1127-1279 a.d.), an attack by jurchen-led jin forces compelled emperor gaozong zhao gou to flee to ningbo. at the site of present-day guangren street, he was saved and taken in by an old woman. when zhao reclaimed his throne in lin’an (present-day hangzhou), to honor the old woman for her life-saving dish of tofu spinach stew, he granted it a descriptive name: “solid white blocks of lovely fragrance and green leafy vegetable with red veins.” and at the site where he was sheltered, zhao had guangren fang – the memorial archway – erected. later, the site was renamed guangren street. in the chinese tv series “like a flowing river 2” (2020), guangren street makes an appearance on screen, thus evoking nostalgic memories of a narrow street decorated with old wutong trees (the chinese parasol tree) and antique houses aligned. at the west end, residents live, while the east accommodates fewer people. what remains is the building of ningbo trinity college along with residences of the yu family and the shao family, and other historical and cultural heritages protected at the municipal level. the derelict stores invite an exploration of the past. the mottles on the wall attract many lingering eyes.
