hey everyone and welcome to ningbo fun facts 101· legendary streets. have you ever been to wangjing road? this road was named after wangjing gate, an ancient city gate of ningbo. as described in the local documentary siming annals (1225-1227 a.d.), “the city accommodates 10 gates. its western gate is known as ‘wangjing’, accessing navigable waterways for transportation.” wangjing gate was among the six great ones in ancient ningbo. back at the time, it was the only waterway for office-bearers, exam candidates, and business people to enter or leave ningbo for the capital city. located at the original site of the old city ramparts, wangjing road is the earliest “ring road” in ningbo. nowadays, the road has become a byword for amenity as thriving camphor trees take over the roadside and thus better the environment of the neighborhood. in both 2016 and 2019, archaeological findings of the vicinity were listed “annual key archaeological discoveries in zhejiang”. at its site, the future wangjing gate relics park is under construction and scheduled for general completion by the end of 2021.
