on november 9, 2020, ningbo evening news, under the administration of ningbo daily group, launched its first english column – insight ningbo – to present ningbo to the world in both english and chinese.

this was the first time that ningbo evening news had released a special page in a foreign language since its inception in 1995. at about the same time, its multimedia app yongshang (i.e., in ningbo) also initiated the digital column -- english corner.

for the past 10 months, the english corner has been broadcasting via numerous channels, including yongshang app, wechat channel and douyin of ningbo evening news, youku and bilibili. to further its influence, the column set up a series of featured video programs that introduced local food, scenery, and history from a variety of perspectives. highlights include “ningbo at a glance”, “the horizon of nature”, “foreign friends encounter traditional ningbo food”, “a bowl of ningbo”, “ningbo fun facts 101”, to name but a few. 

currently, the number of articles (videos) posted on various platforms and channels has exceeded 300, and the total number of views (plays) has reached 38 million plus. some of the products have also been pushed by people's daily (english edition), xinhua news (english), cctv video, learning power, china daily and other media. the retweeting by chinese ambassadors’ accounts abroad further enhances the reputation and international influence of ningbo.

ningbo evening news built english corner of yongshang from scratch. and it continuesto thrive and has gained a large group of subscribers thanks to the support from these translators and think tanks. in near future, ningbo will be ready to present a highly internationalized modern city.
